Oh I feel your pain!! We have remodeled 80% of our kitchen (funky drop ceiling with fluorescent lights)over the years- replacing all of the appliances- tore off the ugliest wall paper ever.....and more. I am amazed at that wallcovering and ceiling material- yikes! I wish you luck on getting it all torn out and replaced. Maybe you can add some canned recessed lights on the ceiling strategically placed over the stove-sink etc..that's what we did and I love it.

We dream of all these things! (Wait until you see more of our lighting issues.) But some day they'll come to pass - we're just looking to camouflage what we can until that day arrives.

I have faith you can make it fab!

I think the lower cabinet would look great without the "sticking out" counter top. And remove the upper cabinet (emptying it first) and replace with white shelving! there, problem solved. Seriously, I salute you for being pragmatic enough to see the potential in the house you purchased and being willing to do it as your finances permit! Hugs!!

can't wait to see what you come up with Deborah. I can feel your pain. I'm sure that it will look amazing in the end.
