I was popping about and decided that the sketch challenge at Chupa's blog, Random Acts of Creativity, looked like the kind of thing I would struggle with. Not that there's anything wrong with the sketch. It's a great sketch.
But I know myself, and I know when I see a sketch that will give me trouble. I decided to do it because I really need to grow (creatively) and it's not going to happen if I never face those challenges that seem difficult or intimidating.
So here's the sketch:
And here's my (very literal) take:
SUPPLIES
(Not pictured) Bazzill cardstock; ombre ribbon (May Arts?)
I'm not sure how I feel about this card. I struggled a lot with it, but I was eventually satisfied enough to pronounce it finished. I'm never very confident when working with multiple patterns. Some people are brilliant with the mix-and-match.
I, however, am not one of them.
I should have a video for you on Sunday - another struggle - I was all butterfingers and my battery died at one point - lol! If it could go wrong this afternoon, it did! We'll see what we get in the editing room.
Thanks for stopping and have a blessed day!

I think you did a great job with the sketch Deborah!

Love your finished card Deborah! Your interpretation of the sketch is fun and I think you rocked the pattern combo ;)
I sometimes struggle with mixing up the patterns, and bookmarking this article by Julia Stainton ages ago was the best thing I did to free my pattern creativity!!

gorgeous! you did a wonderful job. i hink its easiest to mix patterns from a stack/pad set, they are generally meant to go together.

I wouldn't think for a moment, that this sketch gave you trouble! It's a perfectly balanced card, with great choice of colours, patterns and embellishments. A true beauty!! :)

Wonderful mix of colors and elements, Deborah! I am guilty of following sketches literally, too, but that's what they are there for, right?? LOL

I LOVE the color combo ... good for you taking on something you don't gravitate to naturally! I envy folks who look at a sketch and then shake it all up!! This is beautiful!

I, too, struggle with patterns. Now, instead of buying separate sheets of paper, I'll buy pads because the colors are usually more suitable than a lot of my papers for mixing and matching. That helps a lot.
I love your creation. No trouble there and I would never have known you had any problems at all. Beautiful card.
