Aha! The Mystery Card-Making Marvel Has Been Revealed!

Remember how I made a post a few days ago about getting my bum kicked in Kristina Werner's Color Challenge a week ago?

And remember how I posted a card by somebody who DIDN'T get her bum kicked? (Quite the reverse, actually - she even took names, I believe.)

And remember how I was just Fit To Be Tied because I couldn't find her after downloading her card?

Well, I am thrilled to say that she is anonymous no more! (She is also totally cool and has given me permission to post her photo again.)

She goes by the name of Alice W at the Flickr Hero Arts Pool, and just look at what that woman did:

 

Show me some love for Alice! C'mon, now, GIVE IT UP!!!

(Yeah, yeah, I know I can't hear you from here, but sitting around reading blogs is not very good exercise. I read you could burn up, like, 1,200 calories just by screaming at your kids, so I figure a really loud, "Woooo-Whooooo" ought to be worth at least a coupla hundred. (Maybe even enough to cancel out that exra-large frappa-latte-white-chocolate-mocha-with-just-a-splash-of-coffee you had this morning.) 

Besides, our children NEED to hear us scream in a positive way.

They need to see we don't want to throttle everybody - just them.

Kristina Werner's Color Challenge Gone Awry

Well, I'm sad to say that I have lost several hours of my life that I will never get back trying to rise to the occasion known as Kristina Werner's Color Challenge #52.

Oh, it was a very sad day in The Attic. I tried this color on that color, and then I tried moving stuff around, and then I scrapped the whole thing and started afresh.... Three times we did this, and, in the end, I declared that my butt had been thoroughly kicked by Aqua, Saffron, Mustard, Sand and White.

(I think I might have been able to accept this beating had White not been involved. I mean, C'MON! - how do you screw up with White on the menu?!)

Despite the lack of anything remotely resembling my original - albeit rather vague and undefined - vision, the experience wasn't a waste of time. I learned at least one excellent lesson and possibly a few smaller ones as a bonus. (And if I act NOW, I'll bet they'll throw in a second matching set ABSOLUTELY FREE!)

Here's what I learned.

DON'T FORCE THE ISSUE.

Or, to spell it out more clearly, know when to walk away from a color palette that isn't working for you. This is not to say there was something wrong with those colors - they were great. Loved 'em, in fact. But my brain, for whatever reason, couldn't seem to get around the lack of a dark contrasting color. I don't think I can claim this was a flaw of the palette, either, because I came across the card below and it just stopped me dead in my whiny little tracks.

(Before I go on, can somebody tell me who made this card? I copied it onto my desktop so I could include it in this post. When I went back later to find it again online and to ask permission to use it, I couldn't find the thing anywhere. So if you know who made this card, please leave a comment so I can properly credit this artist and provide a link to her blog or photostream.)

Whoever the mystery artist was, SHE certainly didn't have any problem with this challenge. It didn't kick HER butt.

So I learned this week that sometimes, for whatever reason, my brain collapses in the face of certain demands. And the next time this happens, I will not, WILL NOT, I tell you, keep pursuing this madness! Oh, noooooo. 

Instead, I will happily concede defeat and move onto something my brain DOES like. And maybe next time, I'll have something other than a lesson learned to show for it!

Today's color challenge at Kristina Werner's Design Blog was very hard for me. Black, gray, and white - with no other colors.  Oh, my word! (I don't know if I'm so good with nothin' by neutrals.)
