Memory Box: Vertical Merry Christmas

The new Memory Box stamps are a treat, and I used two of them in today's card for our Outside the Box blog. I wanted my card to resemble those old-fashioned holiday postcards of long ago. I like my overall result but feel there is something missing....

I wonder... do you think it would look better if the right side of the card had a punched border, too?

I N S T R U C T I O N S

1. Cut Antique Gold SSP 4.25" x 11", score and fold to create card base.
2. Cut 3.75" x 5.25" panel of PP.
3. Stamp and emboss Vertical Merry Christmas and Poinsettia Stem on PP panel.
4. Color poinsettia image with PrismaColor pencils.
5. Border punch Jupiter SSP and adhere to card.
6. Adhere PP panel to card.
7. Adhere pearls to flower center.

Unity Suzi Blue - Be the Poem

I'm rather fond of these Suzi Blue stamps. This is another card I found in a long-buried folder on my C Drive labeled To Post.

I used this little Poppy stamp for my November CCC, and I used him for the Mini-Cards class I taught back in December... I guess I'm smitten!

Mini Card featuring Poppy Stamp Bobby Bird

Here's the fifth (I think it's the fifth) of six mini-cards I taught last month in Evansville at The Corner Crop. This one features Poppy stamp Bobby Bird - another really sweet image from Dave Brethauer (owner and creator of Memory Box stamps and papers).

There's a great story behind Poppy stamps. Dave has two children - 12 and 10 years of age, I believe - and he decided he didn't want them to be bums for the summer. So he created Poppy Stamps as an independent company for his children to own and manage! That's right - they fill the orders, help design the catalog, the whole shebang! I think that's pretty cool. Not only do they get to learn responsibility but what a fabulous thing to put on a college application!!!

(On a semi-related note, this college graduate originally spelled "college" above as collage. I think somebody around here needs some medical attention. I'd suggest retail therapy but that's just plain Wrong!)

Class Mini-Card #4

I've shown you the cards I taught in my Christmas mini-cards classes featuring Poppy stamps Andrew Angel, Fred Frolic and Fred Frost. Now here's the card featuring Daniel Digger (although why they all have boys' names is beyond me since they appear to be wearing skirts).

But who cares?  I think they're adorable no matter what their names! And they are too much fun to color! I went a little overboard with the Gamsol, so I lost my brightest highlights, but I learned a good lesson for the future: less is more with the mineral spirits!

Mini Card featuring Poppy Stamp Andrew Angel

Here's another card I taught for my Memory Box Mini-Card class. This one featured a Poppy stamp that goes by the name of Andrew Angel. I used Copics for the face, but the rest is all PrismaColor pencils (including his rosy cheeks).

Supplies: Memory Box patterned paper, shimmer card stock and stamps ("Sprinkles" B1158, "Andrew Angel" 213C); inks (Ranger Distress, Memento); Tsukineko glue pad; Martha Stewart glitter; PrismaColor pencils; Copics; ribbon; pearls; Nesties, Tim Holtz Ink Applicator tool.

Instructions:

1. Print sentiment on computer printer and stamp image above.
2. Cut out using Nestie - use Nestie as a mask and apply Ranger Distress ink using foam ink applicator tool.
3. Color face with Copics, then color use PrismaColor pencils for the rest (use Gamsol to blend if desired). NOTE: the wax from the pencils isn't good for your Copics.
4. Stamp snowflakes with Tsukineko glue pad and immediately sprinkle with glitter; tamp down and remoe excess by gently tapping card.
5. Adhere gems in center of each snowflake.
6. Cut patterened paper and card front and back using Nesties.
7. Edge patterned paper shape with Ranger DIstress ink.
8. Horizontally score card front about 1" from top. Apply adhesive above the score line and adhere to card back.
9. Stack and adhere shaped panels to front of card.
10. Cut 6" ribbon, tie into bow, and adhere to card with glue dot.

One thing I didn't do here but which would look good is to cover the wings with some flocking or that "flower" stuff for some texture.
