Memory Box Card: Joyeux Noel

Hey, there!

It's my day to post on the Memory Box Design Team blog, Outside the Box!

If you're in the market for a simple but speedy design for your upcoming Christmas card assembly line and you want pattern paper flexibility, allow me to recommend this quick, easy, and inexpensive design: 

S U P P L I E S

Memory Box dies (Joyeux Noel, Peace Doves); Memory Box Thistle Dot patterned paper, Soiree Shimmer cardstock scraps; Mark Richards gems

I N S T R U C T I O N S

1. Make card base.
2. Cut and adhere: patterned paper to mat, then mat to card.
3. Die cut Joyeux Noel and Peace Doves and adhere.
4. Adhere gems.

Easy-peasy-nacho-cheesy (as Gigi would say)!

T I P S

• Mass-producing Christmas cards is most quickly accomplished when you complete a single step for ALL the cards at once. So cut all your paper for the card base at one time, then score all of the card bases, and then fold all of them. Repeat each step in this manner and you'll be finished in no time!

• Memory Box dies are so beautiful with their intricate and delicate filligree-like details that those of us with glue issues (like myself) can feel intimidated about adhering the die cuts to our cards. There are a number of ways to handle this, but one of the easiest is to use spray adhesive. Yup. Love that stuff! Make sure you do this in a properly ventilated area. I go outside, put my pieces in a  cardboard box and lightly mist with the spray adhesive. I work in as many batches as will easily fit in the box.

• If you don't want to bother with adhering gems or don't want to pad your envelopes to keep the gems from being destroyed by postal sorting machines, you can always use enamel dots, droplets of Stickles or Liquid Pearls, or gem stickers.

Welcome, Stamp Fanatics!

Today's card may have been the easiest card to make on record because it involves nothing but pre-made doo-dads and a little glue. (Even with all my glue issues, I managed to handle this one without any catastrophes - which is saying something). And cleaning up was a snap (always a bonus)!

The little owls are printed right on the paper, for crying out loud!!! Easy-peasy, good'n'cheesy...!

 

S  U  P  P  L  I  E  S

All products by Jillibean Soup unless otherwise noted. Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned Paper: Owloween Stew 6" x 6"; Embellishments: enamel stars, googlie eyes (Darice); Pea Pod Parts (die-cuts): Owloween Stew; Adhesives: foam dimensional adhesive, Tombo Multi-Glue; Tools: paper cutter, scoreboard, bone folder   

I  N  S  T  R  U  C  T  I  O  N  S

1. Make orange card base for a 4.25” x 5.5” card.
2. Cut patterned paper (of owls in tree) to a 4" x 5.25" panel.
3. Cut a purple cardstock matte 1/16" larger on all sides for the patterned paper panel.
4. Adhere PP panel to purple mat and then to card base.
5. Adhere enamel stars, orange photo corners from Pea Pod Parts and googlie eyes.
6. Adhere "Freaky" with foam dimensional adhesive.

Memory Box Card: Merry

It's my day to post on the Memory Box Design Team blog, Outside the Box!

I'm also still playing with our latest holiday release, and I decided to change it up a wee bit by using PARTS of die cuts to see what would result. I really like what happened - check it out:

I took the "Merry" from the Merry Christmas To All die:

And the center of the Dazzling Snowflake to decorate my Cabrini Ornament:

U S E   U P   T H O S E   S C R A P S !

In the interest of attempting to winnow down my collection of paper scraps, I decided to use a 6"x6" Memory Box patterned paper scrap and some Soiree Shimmer paper scraps - the former is so old I don't even remember when I originally got it, but it's been years.

I'm so excited! FIve scraps down and only 2,037 to go - woo-who!!!

(There are tons of current patterned papers and cardstock out there that can be substituted for my discontinued stuff. One of the nicest things about this design is that you can mix and match very easily.)

I hope you give these techniques a try. Look at your dies and see what would happen if you took the die cut apart. The results are like doubling your die collection!

I hope y'all don't get visual whiplash from all the jumping back and forth between holiday cards that happens about this time of year - lol!

I made today's card for Hampton Art and it uses more of the new goodies from Jillibean Soup and is a quick and easy card for the time-pressured cardmakers out there.

 

 

S  U  P  P  L  I  E  S

All products by Jillibean Soup unless otherwise noted. Cardstock: Bazzill; 6" x 6" Patterned Papers: Owloween Stew and Witches Brew collections; Pea Pod Parts (die-cuts): Witches Brew; Chipboard Glitter Alphabet; Adhesives: foam dimensional dots, Tombo Multi-Glue; Tools: paper cutter, scoreboard, bone folder, corner rounder   

I  N  S  T  R  U  C  T  I  O  N  S

1. Make green card base for a 4.25” x 5.5” card.
2. Cut a 3" x 5.5" panel of star patterned paper from Owloween Stew and adhere to card base; round bottom corners of card.
3. Cut a 5/8" x 5.5" panel of striped patterned paper from Witches Brew and adhere over top edge of star patterned paper.
4. Adhere alphabet letters with Tombo.
5. Adhere cat from Pea Pod Parts with foam dimensional adhesive.

Hampton Art Card: Balloon Adventure

Greetings and Salutations, Stamp Addicts!

I don't know about y'all, but here in my neighborhood it's grey and overcast. Bleeeh. It makes me want to jump into my card below and take off on an adventure!

 

S  U  P  P  L  I  E  S

Cardstock: Bazzill; Stamps: Hot Air Balloon cling set (Graphic 45), sentiment from Sight Seeing Stew (Jillibean Soup); Inks: black, embossing, lavendar, peacock, pea green, purple; Accents: Halloween wood veneer stars (Jillibean Soup); Embossing Powder: Platinum; Adhesives: Tombo Multi-Glue, Score Tape; Tools: paper cutter, scoreboard, bone folder, heat tool, craft mat, foam ink applicators   

I  N  S  T  R  U  C  T  I  O  N  S

1. Make 4.25” x 5.5” card base.
2. Cut a 4" x 5.25" panel of black cardstock and adhere to card base.
3. Use foam ink applicators to apply colored inks to 3.75" x 5" panel of white cardstock.
4. Stamp balloon images and sentiment with black ink.
5. Adhere stamped panel to card.
6. Apply embossing ink to stars, coat with EP and heat set.
7. Once cool, adhere stars to card.

It's my day to post on the Memory Box Design Team blog, Outside the Box - and, boy, have I got some news to report!

Memory Box and Imagine Crafts have decided to get together for a little product sharing and see what kind of magic we can make when we join forces, so keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming blog hop in October!

I'm already stoked because the very generous folks at Imagine Crafts sent us all a ton of stuff to play with. I had requested some 1" cubes of the Encore Ultimate Metallic inks by Tsukineko, but they embellished my order, to say the least. Just look at this spread (cat not included):

Like Christmas in August, it was - and I've already been playing because why not make a Christmas card in August when Santa's arrived early!

So here's today's card... whatcha think? I really like how the ink is transluscent enough to reveal the shimmering pink of the cardstock on the ornament's body but can also be applied heavily enough to provide opaque coverage on the ornament's cap.

S U P P L I E S

Paper: Neenah 110# Solar White, 110# Shimmer in silver and pink, pink cardstock; Dies: Traditional Ornament, Lydia Ornament, Curled Ribbons (Memory Box); Stamp: Time To Be Joyful (Memory Box); Inks: Encore Ultimate Metallic - Champagne, VersaMark (Tsukineko); Embossing Powders: Clear, Sparkle (Imagine Craft); Accents: gems and pearls (Recollections); Adhesives: Tombo mono; Tools: sponge daubers (Imagine Crafts), corner rounder, heat tool

I N S T R U C T I O N S

1. Make card base and round bottom corners.
2. Die cut Traditional Ornament from pink cardstock, Lydia Ornament from pink shiimer paper and Curled Ribbons from silver shimmered paper. Arrange die cuts on card, but don't adhere yet - we're just deciding where to place our sentiment.
3. Once you've decided where you want the sentiment, lightly brush baby powder over the card front to remove static.
4. Stamp the sentiment with Champagne ink, apply clear EP, and heat set.
5. Completely cover the cap of the Lydia Ornament die cut with Champagne ink; pounce the same ink on the rest of it (but don't cover completely) and heat set.
6. Apply VersaMark ink and then Sparkle EP to the Lydia Ornament body (but not the cap); heat set the EP and the Champagne ink on the ornament cap.
7. Adhere Lydia Ornament die cut to Traditional Ornament.
8. Apply Champagne ink to ribbon die cut and heat set.
9. Snip ribbon die cut at bottom loop so you can slide the ornament "onto" the ribbon.
10. Adhere the ribbon die cut to the card, then thread the ornament's cap through the ribbon's loop and adhere the ornament.
11. Adhere gems and pearls.   

T I P

• Encore Ultimate Metallic is a pigment ink, so it sits on the surface of the paper rather than being absorbed into it. Translation: it takes a while to dry. Heat setting is recommended, or you can apply pigment or mica powders, etc.

• I had no problem cleaning the Encore ink from my stamp with a baby wipe, so no special cleaner is required.

I'm sorry y'all had to wait for this post, but I contracted The Plague on Thursday and it's just impossible to blog and fend off marauding germs at the same time.

(My body has done this before; it mercifully allows me to end the semester before utterly collapsing into a feverish, congested, hacking mess. Very considerate, don't you think? This time, my last final ended at 2:00; by the time dinner was over at 5:00, I was a Goner.)
