2015: October CCC Reveal!

Hello and welcome (finally!) to the 2015 October Card Chain Challenge Reveal!

If you follow this blog, you know I've had an absolutely crazy couple of weeks, and if you're a CCC participant, you've been waiting more than patiently for over a week to see this reveal. (Which I appreciate very much, by the way!)

I suspect October was a hard month for a number of us, given some of the emails I've been receiving.

I'd like to take a moment to say that I hope all of you are remembering to stop at least once a day to give yourself some encouragement. If I were there, I'd certainly give you a hug and tell you to "keep your glow on," as the song says!

Our Holiday Break & Our Next Challenge

Because December is already crazy-busy with holiday cards, we don't have an exchange in that month. However, the January Card Chain Challenge sign-up begins on Monday, December 7, 2015 (the post link will activate at that time) and closes on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 11:55 p.m. with cards to be received by January 31st. All cards exchanged in that challenge will be revealed here on February 1, 2016.

(We only need to get some countries that begin with L, O, Q, R, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z to keep up with our alphabet list! We have 161 countries to go before we have total global participation!!!

As for the USA, past participants include: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. We're still missing: Connecticut, South Dakota, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

If you're new to the Card Chain Challenge ("CCC") this is an event where everybody wins. Basically, you make a card for the person above you on the chain and you receive a card from the person below you on the chain. Memory Box Card: Poinsettia Ribbon

Stamp: "Most Wonderful Time" (Memory Box, retired); Ink: Distress Embossing (Ranger); Accents: gems (Mark Richards, Doodlebug); Twinkling H20s (Bronze Medallion, Egyptian Gold, Gold Jade, Heavenly Bamboo, Hot Cinnamon, Jasper Red; Other: watercolor paper (Canson), Superfine Detail Gold embossing powder (Ranger)

I N S T R U C T I O N S

1. Make 3.5" x 5" card base and round bottom corners.
2. Stamp sentiment with embossing ink, apply EP, and heat.
3. Die cut Poinsettia Ribbon from watercolor paper and paint with Twinkling H20s.
4. Once dry, adhere die-cut to card and apply Stickles to petals.
5. Adhere bling and randomly dot with Stickles.

Family Joy - Hampton Art Card

This was made as a holiday card, but it doesn't have to be!

Today's card features the Holly Berry Borscht 6x6 patterned paper and a goodie from Mix the Media by Jillibean Soup, and the snowflake die from a Hot Fudge Studio clear stamp set - all products by Hampton Art, of course!

6x6 Patterned Paper: Holly Berry Borscht (Jillibean Soup); Other Papers: cardstock, vellum; Media: BG18 marker (Copic), teal ink, Perfect Pearls (Ranger); Accents: wire word, word sticker (Jillibean Soup), cord (Hemptique), gems; Stamp and Coordinating Die: clear stamp set SCO666 (Hot Fudge Studio by Hampton Art); Adhesives: tape runner, glue dots; Tools: paper cutter, scoreboard, bone folder, Vagabond, scissors, tweezers, awl  

I  N  S  T  R  U  C  T  I  O  N  S

1. Make card base for a 4.25” x 5” card from cream cardstock.
2. Cut to fit, layer, and adhere maroon mat and patterned paper panel.
3. Cut and adhere strip of calender patterned paper (four "date squares" long).
4. Color wire word with Copic marker and set aside.
5. Stamp snowflake on vellum with teal pigment ink and apply teal Perfect Pearls.
6. Die cut snowflake and adhere by strategically placing small drops of glue in areas that will be hidden by gems and sticker.
7. Adhere sentiment sticker.
8. Cut glue dot into thin slivers and stick to back of wire word, stretching each sliver along back of letters for maximum coverage, and attach to card.
9. Adhere gems.

Memory Box Meets Imagine Crafts!

I stole a few minutes for myself to do a little blog tending, and I was shocked to discover that I have approximately ten cards that I have not posted over the last few months! I wrote the posts but then didn't publish them because I forgot to change their draft status. What a maroon!

So today's card should have been published at the end of October for the Memory Box-Imagine Crafts blog blitz! (Which has long since passed.) There's a product review included, so DO read on!

If you recall, we Design Team members were all sent a box of goodies from the terrific people at Imagine Crafts, and I've been playing with mine regularly. My favorite inks thus far are the Encore Ultimate Metallics and the Delicata inks. The only thing I can complain about is that I can't capture their incredible richness in a photograph (but I suspect that speaks to my mediocre photography skills and not the products - lol).

I'm also IN LOVE with their Sheer Shimmer Spritzers. I have trouble with spritzers and sprays - I just seem to leave globs of product instead of the delicate spray I envy so much on others' cards. Well, shut the front door, sports fans, because even I can get a sweet sheer shimmery spray (with NO globs) from these babies! 

I tried a variety of lighting but wasn't able to fully capture the beautiful and subtle sparkle of the inks and sprays:

I N S T R U C T I O N S

1. Create a top-folding 4.25" x 5.5" card base.
2. Cut cardstock panel, (approximately 4" x 5.25") and dry emboss with Sizzix Brick folder.
3. Direct-apply Satin Rose ink to embossed panel and spray with Sheer Shimmer Spritz. Heat set and set aside.
4. DIe cut 2 Grand Snow Globes from white cardstock, 5 Ho Ho Holly Leaves from dark green shimmer paper, and 1 Curled Ribbon from dark blue cardstock. From one of the globes, die cut Cottage in the Woods.
5. Apply Delicata ink directly to one of the globe bases and set aside to dry; discard the other base.
6. Apply blue ink with sponge dauber to the full globe and edge with silver ink; set aside to dry.
7. Lightly edge the landscape portion with silver ink along the bottom and side edges.
8. Stamp sentiment with blue ink.
9. Adhere inked globe to embossed panel.
10. Adhere landscape globe to inked globe with dimensional tape and attach base.
11. Layer and adhere ribbon and holly leaves, followed by pearls.

Ode to Joy (& Julie)

Hello and welcome back!

It's my day to post at Outside the Box, the Memory Box Design team blog!

Today's card was inspired by a card (see it here) made by the delightful Julie Ebersol. Julie is the Queen of Clean (and Simple), and I think Memory Box dies are at their elegant best when they are used in the CAS style. So here is my homage to Julie and her fabulous card (please pardon the less than stellar lighting):

S U P P L I E S

Memory Box Dies: Cirque Alphabet Tags, Advent Calendar; Cardstock: metallic cardstocks (Hobby Lobby); Patterned Paper: Lawn Fawn; Accents: gems (Mark Richards); Other: dimensional foam tape, Scor-Tape

I N S T R U C T I O N S

1. Make 4.25" x 5.5" card base.
2. Cut two 1/4" x 5.5" strips from red metallic paper and adhere to vertical edges of card using Scor-Tape.
3. Die cut "J", "O", and "Y" Cirque Alphabet Tags from red metallic paper, 3 "blank" Advent Calendar tags from patterned paper, and 3 "blank" Advent Calendar tags from silver metallic paper.
4. Snip off ornament tops from silver paper and adhere to red ornament tops.
5. Adhere red ornament tags to patterned paper tags and adhere to card with dimensional tape.
6. Adhere gems.

I teach at IUPUI and the University of Indianapolis, and we're in the final week of classes, so I'm losing my mind (as I do every semester around this time). 1. Make card base for a 4.25” x 5.5” card from maroon cardstock.
2. Cut and adhere 4” x 5.25” white mat.
3. Die cut cream panel, die cut line of holes, and adhere to white mat.
4. Die cut green patterned paper panel and adhere to white mat.
5. Cut one column of calendar patterned paper and adhere to white card stock.
6. Trim white cardstock to 1/8" on either side and adhere to card.
7. Die cut circle from maroon cardstock.
8. Die cut circle from aqua cardstock and stamp Merry Christmas sentiment in darker aqua ink; adhere two gems.
9. Adhere sentiment circle to maroon circle with foam dimensional tape.
10. Tie two pieces of twine into bows and adhere to back of maroon circle with glue dots.
11. Adhere maroon circle to card with foam dimensional tape.
12. Adhere gems to card.
