My Favorite Pins (01-12-13)

My five favorite Pinterest pins this week are across the board (no pun intended), but that's what's so great about Pinterest - enjoy!

A list of 100 things you ought to know from DIY Home Sweet Home! Good stuff at this site and in this post: tips and time savers and general cleverness that makes you wonder, "Why didn;t I think of that?" (Example - we have three people in our house but two of us go through no less than five glasses EACH per day. I like the idea in the photo above. My dishwashing hands like it even better!)

Aha - finally! A way to keep Gigi's lunch cold without paying a fortune. If she loses a sponge, who cares?! This tip came from Living Rich With Coupons (which has a lot of nifty posts - you should check it out)!

If you are looking for cool things to put on your cards - how about a little origami? And if it's a gift card, how's about using cash as the paper? How cool is this idea from the Origami Resource Center? (NOTE: The pin on Pinterest doesn't lead to this site - it took me quite awhile to track down this page.)

The Paper Place has a great post for easy math when you're dividing up a piece of paper into sections- all you need is a ruler and a pencil. (Loved this as I stink at math.)

And here is a very cool card tutorial from a blog I'd never heard of before but am eager to re-visit: StamARTic. This would be a very cool card to make for a mama-to-be or bride at her shower - each guest could contribute a gift card!

My Five Favorite Organizational Pins 11-17-2012

This week's Fab Five of Pinterests are all about organizational ideas! (Because there is nothing my little anally-retentive heart loves more than organization!)

Here's an idea I really liked because it can be adapted so easily to a craft room. You could store all sorts of small/short items on this kind of a system because you can insert your shelf at any height you like - so no more stacking three cans of flowers (for example) atop one another!  (This blogger's post has a ton of ideas for shelving, so check her out!) I also thought this was a really great idea if you wanted a bedside table but didn;t have any room for one on the floor.

Many crafters have babies, and here's a clever way to keep your baby's bed without feeling guilty! For more great ideas: 30 different ways you can upcycle a baby bed - including the springs!!!

 

 

 

 

 

I have enough baker's twine to make me crazy - and most of my ire results from having no easy way to keep it tidy and still access it. And then I found this clever solution:

Now this idea is lovely if you need to dry a number of cards/projects at one time and have limited horizontal real estate. My favorite thing is that you can retract the cords when you're finished, and it's all neat and tidy! You can get a two-, three- or four-line system. (I was thinking a four line system would allow you to actually lay the project over the top of the four lines rather than hanging it vertically from a single line - which would be good if you needed to wait for drippy stuff to dry - like Stickles, etc.

I know a lot of crafters have to share their space with a guest room, so I think this is a brilliant option for storing stash and tools you don't use all of the time. It's out of sight and easily accessed.

My Five Favorite Sewing Pins 11-10-2012

This week's Fab Five of Pinterests are sewing related and feature some excellent tips and projects!

If you're new to sewing, here's a great place to get some newbie info and tips on how to work your machine:

If you have a sewing machine but aren't familiar with how to set all those different tension and thread dials, you may find this tutorial helpful:

Now that you know how to work your machine, why not do some sewing? I like to recycle stuff, and we like to bring our own grocery bags to the store, but the cheap cloth ones fall apart rather easily, and we actually had a Kroger manager tell us we couldn't bring in our blue Walmart bags anymore! So I think we're going to be making our own from now on, and this is what I hope to make by transforming old jeans into a bag! There isn't a tutorial, but if this turns out for me, I'll make a tutorial and share.

If you've ever had an issue with your jeans being too long, (and who hasn't?) this tutorial is excellent for showing you a very easy and quick way to not only alter their length but keep the original hem!!! ("No, way!" you say? "Waaaaay!" I say!)

And speaking of hemming, this is such a ridiculously easy way to make a crisp and even hem line:

My Five Favorite Pins11-3-2012

This week's Fab Five of Pinterests are not specifically craft-related but are, instead, a nice collection of cool things for your viewing pleasure!

I am very much against all the paper waste we have in this country, so I absolutely love this roll of reusable cloth paper towels! Each one snaps to the next, so you use 'm, cleam 'em, and start all over again! You can either buy this wonderful item, or you can make it yourself if you're a sewing enthusiast.

If you like to garden and are looking to expand your bed space, this is the easiest way to do it that I've seen yet - which is really nice since nobody wants to dig up soil hardened by the cooler temperatures. 

I can't stand how expensive microwave popcorn is - especially when it seems like 1/4 of it scorches. So here's how to make your own gourmet microwave popcorn! (I sent Spouse to the store earlier, and one of the items on the gorcery list is a jar of popcorn. We've already got brown sandwich bags, so we're going to see how well this works!)

Here's something to help restore eyelash growth. When I tried to pin it, though, it was blocked because somebody had reported it as being on a spam site. I don't know if this is legitimate, so I just copy-and-pasted it here: Wash an old mascara or nail polish container and fill with: 1/4 of the container with Castor Oil, 1/2 Vitamin E Oil, 1/4 Aloe Vera Gel. Mix the concoction together as well as you can with your mascara wand, and apply a light layer to lashes (or brows) every night before bed. Castor oil thickens your lashes while aloe vera gel lengthens. Vitamin E accelerates length. Give it a month for results.

My Five Favorite Crafty Pins 10-27-2012

Like so many people I'm loving Pinterest - I could probably explore that site until my eyes literally fell out of my head. Luckily, I don't have the free time necessary to achieve that particular accomplishment.

I thought I'd share some of my favorite finds with direct links so you can reach the root source in one click.

Just in time for the holidays we have these really cute (and FREE) printables:

Here's a very good DIY solution for storing all those pens, pencils, Copics, etc that you may have in your life. Unlike the expensive commercial solutions, make these magnetic pen holders that cost hardly anything. (These are Crystal Lite containers!)

(Although she hasn't done it here, it would be pretty easy to hot glue these babies together to form a pyramid on your table.)

Wanna make your own sponge daubers? 

How's about some DIY no-sew fabric bin covers?

Surely you want to learn how to tie a perfect bow (in easy to follow pictures)!
